The 16th Annual  conference of Neuro Spinal Surgeons Association, India had its glorious moments at Kolkata, the cultural capital of India between 16th and 18th November 2016 under the leadership of Dr. G. K. Prusty.
On 15/09/2106 the conference took off with the Pre conference workshop and Live operative session on Pediatric spine surgery well organized by Dr. Sandip Chatterjee at Park Clinic, Kolkata. Dr. Domnic Thomson, Dr. Ajay Sinha, Dr. N Muthukumar and Dr. Balamurali were the faculties. Lively discussion on controversial topics viz: Tethered cord release and Foramen magnum decompression for Arnold Chiari Malformation were the highlights of the workshop.
Dr. G. K. Prusty organized a live operative session at CALCUTTA MEDICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE on 16/09/016 forenoon session where Dr. Manas Panigrahi and Dr. Sudhir Dubey demonstrated minimally invasive spine surgeries. On 16/09/16 the conference started colourfully with an attendance over 250 delegates covering many subjects in Neuro spinal surgery under various sections viz: Controversies in spine surgery, Newer directions in spine surgery, Orations, Symposiums, Seminars, Award papers, E-posters, Didactic lectures, Lunch-on seminars etc. Renowned speakers in Dr. Wise Young, Dr. Gerber, Dr. Hirano, Dr. Suh, Dr. Domnic Thomson, Dr. Se Hoon Kim, Dr. Patrick Kluger along with many other versatile Indian faculties delivered lectures.
In the evening the inaugural function was graced by the Chief guest Dr. Shasi Panja, Honourable Minister of Social Welfare, West Bengal. After floral tributes and welcome speech by Dr. G. K. Prusty, the Founder president of NSSA Prof. P. S. Ramani addressed the gathering. Dr. R. Selvan, secretary of Core committee presented the annual report of various activities of NSSA
1. Prof. P. S. Ramani Life Time Achievement Award for the year 2016 was conferred upon Prof. Dr. Benny Wurjomartani of Indonesia.
2. Honorary Membership was given to three foreign delegates namely:
   a.  Dr. Kang Taek Lim of South Korea.
   b. Dr. Baha Ali Kornah of Cairo.
   c. Giancarlo Ghizzardi of Italy.
3. Neighbouring country young neurosurgeon fellowship was given to Dr. Sumit Joshi of Nepal.
This was followed by Grand Gala Dinner.
On 18/09/2016 Cadaver workshop was conducted at R. G. Kar Medical College and was organized by Dr. Sudipto Chatterjee. This was the first of its kind in a Government Hospital in West Bengal. Dr. Tapan K. Daftari (USA), Dr. Patrick Kluger, Dr. Komal Prasad and Dr. P. D. Kulkarni conducted the workshop and demonstrated surgical techniques.
NSSA president Dr. G. K. Prusty and the Organizing Secretary Dr. Soumitra Ray under the guidance of Prof. P. S. Ramani took the conference to greater heights and the credit goes to the organizing team led by Dr G. K. Prusty for bringing together the full bunch of neurosurgeons of  eastern India under one roof.
